Festivals, opens and championships in Baku 5

The large events of the Baku year come from the Azerbaijan Chess Federation’s calendar. The Baku Open fills Baku Crystal Hall at the turn of April and May, organised with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Vugar Gashimov Open follows at the end of July, with rapid and blitz groups at the Baku Olympic Sports Complex. The men’s and women’s national championships are played in February in the Rotunda hall of the Landmark hotel.

The city has its own championships for men and for players under sixteen, which the server lists between December and February. In June the Landau School Chess Festival brings age groups under eight, ten and twelve to the Sea Breeze complex at Nardaran. The weekly category tournaments of the chess schools and the rated events of the clubs are listed with those schools and clubs, since each belongs to one organiser and one hall.
