A Chess.com news item published on 6 November 2016 reports the ribbon cutting of the Vugar Gashimov Chess Academy in Baku, and a Caliber.Az report of 18 December 2022 states that the academy opened in 2016. No page from 2025 or 2026 about the academy itself was found. None of the pages printing this name gives an address or names the academy listed under the Azerbaijani spelling Vüqar Həşimov Şahmat Akademiyası, so the two are kept apart.
